The minimum and maximum projected annualized salary for this position is: $141,076.00 to $241,844.00. Additional compensation may be possible based on experience and skills.

Responsibilities

The C&I Senior Underwriting Officer provides mentoring and oversight of the underwriting, due diligence, and portfolio monitoring done by all the Portfolio Managers that report that report up through the C&I Portfolio Chief Lending Officer. Has the function of institutionalizing the quality and consistency of the C&I team's underwriting of new and existing loan transaction analysis. Also assists in establishing norms for the PM's relative to risk assessment, market understanding and portfolio management. Assists the Market Executives and Sr. Market Executive in oversight of the PM's, inclusive of PM allocation to different loans that require attention.

 

  • Responsible for leading a team of assigned Portfolio Managers/Underwriters to deliver the entirety of credit analysis, underwriting of credit transactions and portfolio management.
  • Responsible for team in managing complex credit transactions including but not limited to M&A, ABL, Non-profit, Working Capital and other credit/underwriting transactions.
  • Owns the quality of Credit and Underwriting packages delivered for approval to the committee &/or the right approving officer(s).
  • Coordinates workload team-wide to ensure timely delivery of completed loan underwriting packages to the appropriate approval authority.
  • Assesses direct reports skills and abilities to leverage team performance and provide targeted coaching to help improve associate skills and career growth. Further ensures development and retention of engaged teammates by helping understand credit, critical skill set by training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Has input on annual reviews of associates and ongoing direct one-on-one coaching, development and mentoring Instrumental in providing guidance to the Portfolio Management team by being the subject matter expert around any/all areas of C&I Lending.
  • Provides oversight and is responsible for the performance of the assigned Portfolio Management team to deliver front-line portfolio maintenance including, but not limited to, annual credit reviews, monitoring of monthly or quarterly reporting (i.e., borrowing base certificates, financial reporting, sales reports, leasing reports, operating statements, rent rolls, etc.) and loan covenant compliance.
  • Reviews and signs-off on all Credit and Risk Rating memos, prior to submission to approving officers.Supports the objectives of the bank by being a partner with RMs and PMs and helping with screen and consistent underwriting opportunities and proactively participating in Loan Committees. Along with Market Executives actively manages pipeline for new and renewing opportunities and workflow to ensure PM team is meeting expected timelines.
  • Responsible for managing all compliance, audit, risk related findings in the portfolio and for management of clearing the exceptions created &/or any findings.Coordinates with third parties (appraisers, field examiners, attorneys).
  • The Senior Underwriting Officer is responsible for making sure, there are no matured &/or past due facilities and is expected to proactively work with the deal team to identify upcoming maturities and timeliness of renewals &/or closings.
  • Attends all committee meetings to monitor questions asked and any issues that may arise with loan packages.
  • This role may own some direct client relationships, either/or to help with capacity or legacy ownership.Create and maintain ongoing portfolio management reporting protocols to monitor the C&I portfolio. Reporting shall include, but not be limited to, red flag/detection reports to highlight adverse changes and trends with covenants, past dues, industry risks, exposure concentrations, etc.
  • Work with the Relationship Manager, Market Executive, and Portfolio Manager in developing actions plans and ongoing monitoring of WATCH list or higher acuity risk transactions within the C&I Portfolio.
  • Assist in the rehabilitation or potential exit of problem or high-risk exposure credits. Duties shall include, but not be limited to, assessing borrower projections and turnaround strategies, identifying documentation or structural deficiencies, and working in conjunction with the team to make recommendations for corrective action.
  • Responsible to assess, opine, approve, loan structures in accordance with bank policy, underwriting policy, and banking regulations to provide approval of loans with joinder authority.
  • The Senior Underwriting Officer has span of control over 5-14 direct report including varying seniority levels of Portfolio Managers &/or Credit Analysts.Recruit, and Develop teammates including Portfolio Managers of varying seniority and experience as well as Credit Analysts.
  • This is role can and will take on any ad-hoc project(s) or assignment(s) in-line with the Credit &/or Portfolio Management, at the discretion of Senior Management, including but not limited to Enterprise wide process improvement, policy and procedure updates &/or regulatory findings and remediation.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent level of work experience
  • 12 years experience in Banking, Private Equity, and/or Commercial Finance that includes the structuring, underwriting and portfolio management of complex commercial C&I transactions within diverse industries which involve multiple loan structures such as ABL, M&A, Non-Profit, Equipment, Owner Occupied, etc) It is desirable that applicant experience also include the management of direct reports, and involvement in credit risk management, and commercial loan workout
  • 7 years experience as a portfolio manager, structuring and pricing loan transactions, credit analysis, portfolio management and customer service
  • 2 years training and developing others
  • Previous supervisor or leadership experience
  • Credit and sales training
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial credit and underwriting
  • C&I lending products knowledge
  • Exposure to GovCon, Non-Profits, M&A, ABL, Contractors, General C&I, etc
